Allen is Star

of the Month

WELL done to top Wexford show jumper Bertram Allen (21) who readers voted our Gain Star of the Month for November.

USEF honour

THE Irish-bred Mighty Nice continues to gather awards for his connections with the Ard Ohio gelding recently crowned as the United States Eventing Association’s Horse of the Year. Cavan breeder William Kells received a second breeders’ award at the Rolex WBFSH breeders ceremony in Geneva, having already won two HSI awards. This follows the 12-year-old’s outstanding season with American rider Philip Dutton, which saw them claim fourth place at Rolex Kentucky and a bronze medal at the Rio Olympic Games.

The Irish-bred is now in the running with two other US team horses – HH Azur and Verdades – as the United States Equestrian Federation’s international Horse of the Year. To vote for Mighty Nice (voting closes on January 4th), see www.usef.org

Geneva report

LAST week’s Geneva report should have attributed some of the remarks made at the International Jumping Riders Club to Canada’s Eric Lamaze instead of America’s McLain Ward.
