THE Medical Equestrian Association of Ireland is holding a meeting on the management of equestrian sports injuries at Tattersalls on Saturday, October 4th.
The session will run from 9.30am to 4.30pm and among the speakers will be Dr Peter Whitehead, chairman of the FEI Medical Committee. His topic is ‘Experienced based medicine...learning from the big event’. Dr Whitehead was chief medical officer for the equestrian competitions at the 2012 London Olympics.
Consultant anaesthetist Dr Carlos McDowell, chief medical officer at Tattersalls International Horse Trials, will speak on the subject of airway management and analgesia, while other topics being covered are medico-legal aspects of practice, management of concussion and compartment syndrome.
There will be on-course case scenarios and practical training with assistance from the Order of Malta ambulance corps. CME accreditation and study leave will be arranged.
