Larkin jumped a clear round in the 1.25m class, finishing in a time of 55.65 seconds, ahead of the French rider Salome Bravard and Oplemousse Hoy, who also went clear in 56.26 for second place. Third place went to Mathis Burnouf and Pour L’Histoire on 57.14.

Larkin also finished second in the 1.20m speed class on Thursday, again riding Flexing.

The 15-year-old chesnut mare by Cruising out of Flex (by Safari) is owned by Paul Larkin and is a full sister to Flexible and a half-sister to Edward Doyle’s stallion Samgemjee.

The children on horses Nations Cup takes place in Deauville today at 12 noon, while the Grand Prix for both juniors and children on horses will take place tomorrow.

The Irish squad competing at the French venue includes Emelie Larkin, Shane Moloney, Abby Morton, Ciaran Nallon, Jennifer Rea and Killian Ryan competing in children’s classes, while the junior riders are Noelle Barry, Daren Hopkins, Tim MacDonagh, Lucinda Roche, Darragh Ryan and Sofie Slattery.
