1996 – Dolly the sheep makes history as the first cloned mammal ever to be created from an adult cell (a mammary cell) after 277 unsuccessful attempts

2003 – After 328 failed attempts, the French company Cryozootech and Italy’s Laboratory of Reproductive Technology create the world’s first successful horse clone, a Halflinger mare called Prometea, by fusing a skin cell from an adult mare with an empty egg

2005 – The same French/Italian collaboration of scientists successfully clone endurance racing champion Pieraz, a gelding. The clone is called Pieraz Cryozootech Stallion

2005 – Paris-Texas, the clone of Olympic show jumper Quidam de Revel, is confirmed by Cryozootech

2006 – Scamper, the 11-time world barrel racing gelding, is cloned by American company ViaGen and his clone, Clayton, later becomes the first cloned horse to stand at stud in the US (2008)

2006 – E.T. Cryozootech Stallion, the clone of the gelding E.T., three-time leader of the world show jumping rankings and two-time World Cup winner, is revealed

2008 – Gemini, the clone of Gem Twist, was revealed. Gem Twist, a gelding, was the three-time American Grand Prix Association Horse of the Year

2012 – Gem Twist’s clone Gemini successfully sired his first offspring, a colt called The Proposal out of a thoroughbred mare called Otherwise Engaged

2013 – The first foals by the Zangersheide-approved clone stallion Chellano Alpha Z foals hit the ground

2013 – Tomatillo, a clone of Britain’s European team gold and Burghley winner Tamarillo is born

2014 – The first Levisto Alpha Z foals and Air Jordan Alpha Z foals are born

2015 – Hartwell Stud unveils two clones of the Irish Sport Horse stallion, multiple Grand Prix winner Cruising
