WEEKENDS are packed with all kinds of equestrian events so here’s a timely reminder for all Pony Club members not to miss out on this weekend’s Curragh racecourse’s annual Pony Club family race day at the famous Co Kildare course.
Tomorrow (Sunday) will feature top-class racing including the Juddmonte Beresford Stakes (Group 2), CL & MF Weld Park Stakes (Group 3) and Manguard Plus Amateur Riders Derby.
“The objective of this exciting initiative will be not only for the Curragh to showcase horse racing to Pony Club members from all over Ireland, but most importantly for the Pony Club to celebrate the end of their busy summer season with a fun and exciting day for all the family to enjoy,” said Evan Arkwright of the Curragh racecourse.
Among the fun will be a jockey skills exhibition with 10 pony club members displaying their riding skills over four furlongs of the beautiful track. They are Ben Harvey (Ward Union); Ned Fox (Scarteen); Alannah Budds (West Waterford); Emily Wallace (Tipperary); Kellie McClaffery (East Donegal); James Coonan (Kildare); Niall Houlihan (Waterford); Jack Hassett (Tipperary); Jim Tyrell (Laois) and Jill McGettigan (East Donegal).
Killinick Pony Club will perform a special musical ride and there will be presentations to 10 pony club members, selected for inspirational awards.
All Pony Club members will gain free admission to the races and the Curragh racecourse is also laying on exclusive access to the their own suite where complimentary refreshments will be served.
