IRELAND’s Rio-bound show jumper Greg Broderick will compete at next month’s Underwriting Exchange Jumping in the City just before he boards the plane for the Olympic Games.

Taking place on August 5th in Shelbourne Park, Dublin, the event will have an Olympic-themed Rio Carnival atmosphere, as August 5th will also see the opening ceremony of the Games, where six Irish riders will compete in August and one in the Paralympics in September.

Broderick and his mount MHS Going Global will depart Ireland on August 6th and 7th.

Newly-appointed Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed, launched the event, which last year won the Best Innovation in Irish Sport Award.

“Jumping In The City is an innovative spectacle bringing show jumping to a new audience. This welcome collaboration between Horse Sport Ireland and the Irish Greyhound Board will provide the perfect appetizer for the Summer Olympic Games in Rio, which commence the following day, as we wish our seven Equestrian athletes competing at the Games the very best of luck,” said the Minister Creed at launch.

Broderick said: “Jumping In The City was a huge success last year and a competition I thoroughly enjoyed competing in.

The atmosphere was electric and the stadium was packed, the Rio theme this year should add an extra dimension and I’m looking forward to being there.”

The evening will include the West Wood/IFor Williams Amateur Speed class where the winner will receive a brand new 506 Double Horsebox. The Devenish Puissance and The Underwriting Exchange Grand Prix will also take place on the night.

Corporate hospitality is selling out fast and the organisers are recommending that people book their tables asap by visiting www.horsesportireland.ie or phoning 1890 269 969.
