THE new edition of L’Année Hippique, the international equestrian yearbook, is a must-have for equestrian fans.

The exquisitely-produced publication recalls the 2016 equestrian season. This year’s book is an “Olympic Edition” as it reflects on the Games in Rio and covers the three Olympic disciplines of dressage, show jumping and eventing.

With beautiful pictures from the Olympic Games, the publication tells the stories of the Olympians with their mounts and of their successes. Nick Skelton, Charlotte Dujardin and Michael Jung are but a few of those that wrote history in Rio.

A full round-up of the FEI World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses in Lanaken has some wonderful images, which include 16-year-old Michael Pender when he caused a sensation when he won both silver and bronze on ISH Z Seven Caretina and Z Seven Canya Dance respectively for Ireland.

Celebrations continued for Ireland as Gerard O’Neill and ISH Gelding Killossery Kaiden won in the six-year-old class.

The publication is littered with picture pages of equestrian personalities, often giving readers a chance to see riders and personalities in more relaxed and natural poses.

The hardback book also carries illustrated reports from some of the best shows and events around the world including Aachen, Paris and Hickstead.

In his foreword, FEI President, Ingmar De Vos acknowledges the memorable equestrian year of 2016. He mentions the sensational performance of Nick Skelton who claimed individual jumping gold at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Another incredible moment was when the German team clinched the win in the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup in Barcelona in honour of their last team appearance with Ludger Beerbaum.

The listing of results from the year also makes this publication a highly useful resource for years to come.

Tributes are paid to those in the equestrian world who have passed away, some of these including Andres Rodriguez, Hannah Francis and Olivia Inglis to name a few.
