They finished eighth as the fastest four-faulters in the jump-off in 35.88. Allen’s time would have left him comfortably clear of Austrian winner Thomas Frühmann (The Sixth Sense) in 38.45.

In last Saturday’s 1.50m Grand Prix qualifier, Allen partnered Molly Malone V to finish third, beaten just over a second.

Some 11 of the 54 starters went forward to the jump-off, where Allen was clear again in 34.66 seconds. However, Dutch rider Jur Vrieling (Tum-Tum) and South Africa’s Oliver Lazarus (Catan) were marginally faster in 33.49 and 34.01 respectively.

Fellow Irish rider Jonathan Gordon was also in action at the show and finished fifth in the Puissance on Cashman S Spirit. The class was won by Germany’s Thomas Kleis on AFP’s Quick Vainqueur.

Gordon was also competing in the under 25s classes, finishing 10th in the European Youngster Cup last Sunday on Carlie with one time in the first round. Germany’s Philipp Makowei (Chantal) won with a double clear in 33.78.

In the second round of the European Youngster Cup the previous day, Gordon was second on Cashman S Spirit in the 1.40m speed class. They were clear in 61.04 which left them just off Italian rider Roberto Previtali’s target of 58.91 on Varon O’Hesseln.

In the opening round of the competition last Thursday week, Gordon and the same 11-year-old Cashman S Spirit were ninth with a clear in 68.99. Germany’s Marcel Marschall (Castigo Della Caccia) won in 63.43.
