“Frances Cash was a very special lady, a phenomenal judge of a horse and a great producer of show horses. She was always happy to share her knowledge and her opinion was highly valued and sought after. People of Frances’s calibre, both as a horsewoman and as a person, are rare and she is a huge loss to her family, her very many friends and the Irish Sports Horse Industry.”

– Chairman of Horse Sport Ireland, Professor Pat Wall

“I first met Frances some 40 years ago and we remained great friends ever since.

Frances was a most brilliant, talented horsewoman whose success spanned all spheres of equestrian activities. From her first pony Silver Curls (a bay pony!), to point-to-pointing, to winning the Sweet Afton Cup at Dunalk racecourse to multiple supreme championships in the RDS, Balmoral and every corner of Ireland, Frances was truly unique. She rode many winners for me - Lady Mary, Westland Row, Old Gold and we both had particularly fond memories of a heavy weight cob called Borris who we went to Wembley with after winning the championships in Dublin, Balmoral, Cork and Galway. Frances was an inspiration to the younger generation and was always willing to share her knowledge with those who had a desire to learn. She was a great story teller and great company. She judged numerous times with me over the years, indeed we judged at Midleton this summer. Her passion for racing brought her yet into another sphere, becoming a steward at the Turf Cub which she so enjoyed. She was a phenomenal lady, she was Frances, may her God go with her.

– Fintan Flannelly, friend and fellow judge

“I first rode for Frances in Cork Show in the 1980’s. Through all our years together since, she has been a superb mentor to us in respect of our showing endeavours and indeed lots of other aspects of our lives, even up to last Sunday. She was nothing but a consummate professional in everything she did, her attention to detail be it with regard to horses, tack, rider and presentation was obsessive and infectious. She loved to win but also managed to take the losing with equal grace. The equestrian world has lost one of its most knowledgeable professionals and personally, we have lost a special family friend and great advisor.

– Kieran Ryan, friend and sport horse producer

“Frances was an integral part of the International Horse Trials Organising Committee, a great friend to Tattersalls Ireland over the years and very supportive of me personally too - she will be very sorely missed,”

– Roger Casey, Tattersalls Ireland managing director.

“Frances Cash was an excellent judge and was tops when it came to riding horses in particular, including side saddle. She was always very supportive of shows and always delighted to lend a hand to help a show. Frances judged our two-year-old National Championship at Tinahely on August 4th this year and she commented afterwards that it was a very enjoyable experience. She will be a huge loss to the shows of the country and indeed to the whole equine scene where she had made a huge contribution over many, many years.
