IN addition to the main show jumping classes, Geneva also played host to the International Jumping Riders Club Top 10 competition, which saw the top riders and horses in the world compete for end-of-year supremacy.

Similar to the ATP World Finals in tennis, which is also supported by Rolex, the Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final is the only competition that is run by the competitors through the International Jumping Riders Club, and is considered one of the toughest in the world to win.

After two rounds of intense competition, it was Britain’s Scott Brash who produced two flawless displays of show jumping.

Riding Hello Sanctos, Brash was one of four riders who went into the second round on a zero score. As the class progressed, all eyes were on the final rider, Penelope Leprevost and Flora de Mariposa.

ONLY FEMALE RIDER

The only female rider to compete in the Rolex Top 10 Final, only she could demote Brash. With the pressure on, a tight line cost her dearly as the combination faulted at the wall and later added to their tally when a further two poles fell to the floor.

Patrice Delaveau and Lacrimoso HDC finished in the runner-up by a margin of less than two seconds, while things didn’t quite go according to plan for Steve Guerdat as his horse Albfuehren’s Paille lost a shoe just before entering the ring.

After a quick visit to the farrier Guerdat finished on four faults and claimed his spot on the podium in third place.
