EMILY Turkington continued her run of good form at the Cavan Indoor Championships when finishing at the top of the line-up in Saturday afternoon’s €2,000 1.35m jump-off.

Partnering her own Legend, Turkington came early in the 62-strong class, which was run with an immediate jump-off.

“I was aware of the number in the class and I knew I’d have to be very fast in order to hold on to the lead,” she said afterwards.

Her time of 34.82 seconds proved more than adequate to see off any competitors with her closest rival failing to make it home inside the 35-second mark.

The 11-year-old Okkie Trooi-sired Legend has come into his own this season with some impressive rounds at 1.40m level, including a win in the leg of the National Grand Prix league at Connell Hill.

John Floody came closest to the time with the 10-year-old Hermes De Reve-sired Bronson de Reve recording a clear round in 35.43. Cavan EC has always been a happy hunting ground for this combination as the former runners-up in the Six and Seven-year-old Cavan Classic and more recently taking a top-five finish in the July leg of the Ulster Region Summer Tour at the venue.

Edward Doyle secured the yellow rosette with BMH Showtime. Doyle logged a time of 37.60 aboard James Buckley and Caroline Teltsch’s eight-year-old Luidam gelding.

Young rider Sean Monaghan looked to have got to grips with his new ride FTS C’Mon Girl when slotting into fourth place in a time of 37.68. The 10-year-old Cornet Obolensky mare was previously campaigned by Nicola Fitzgibbon.

Cormac Rafferty also made it home inside 38 seconds. Rafferty piloted KMR Benzini across the line in 37.90. Completing the top six was Ailish Connolly with her own Calippos Dragonder, fault free in 39.82.

A new mount for Connolly this season, the nine-year-old Nassau gelding is a Dutch import.

Four-year-olds

THE four-year-old final, sponsored by Joe Reilly Strathroy Milk, was judged by Eamon Rice, Declan Orpen and Ian Fearon.

Their winner was Kenneth Graham on Hyves-Onde W, with second place going to Hirado Blue, ridden by Kevin Gallagher, and third place to Mary McShane on Cloverdale Girl.

Leading rider

SVEN Hadley named as the leading rider of the six-day Cavan Indoor Championships and was presented with his prize of a show jumping fence sponsored by Seamus Quinn of Black River Showjumps.
