KEATINGSTOWN Z Wellie Two, ridden by Susan Fitzpatrick, won the seven-year-old final of the Irish Sport Horse studbook series in Tattersalls on Sunday.

A delighted Susan Fitzpatrick told The Irish Field: “He is by Z Wellie 72 and out of a mare my brother Jonathan used to ride, Marchionese, who is by Laughtons Flight and came from Marion Hughes and won the Boomerang final in 1995. He’s done a lot this year. He placed several times at the three-star show in Villamoura and was only one place out in qualifying for the seven-year-olds in Dublin.

“We’ve been working away with him and I’m delighted with how he went today. I’m a big supporter of this series. I brought my other horse Ard Ginger Pop up through these classes and she went on to be sold to the States where she’s doing well; so I think it’s a great way to bring on youngsters,” said Fitzpatrick following the win.

A total of 25 starters were reduced to nine for the timed decider. First to go, Mikey Pender and HHS Fortune collected four faults at the second last fence in a fast time of 40.38 for eventual fourth place.

Next in, Alex Butler and Pico earned four faults at the final fence, as did the third rider in, Tim MacDonagh and Hollypark Bom Boom.

Fitzpatrick and her first mount HHS Matilide posted the first clear round in 41.42 to capture the lead.

Mark Finnerty and All Action joined the four-faulters as the next to go, while Darragh Ryan knocked Fitpatrick off top spot when he and Lacamore Storm stopped the clock in 41.29 to snatch the lead.

Eddie Moloney (MHS Quinton) and James Hogg (Intuative) both had a fence down each which just left Fitzpatrick and her second mount Keatingstown Z Wellie Two.

A good use of space and a very tight left-hand turn to the penultimate fence shaved vital seconds off Ryan’s time and saw her stop the clock at 40.21 to secure the win.

WIN FOR RYAN

In the six-year-old final, just four combinations managed a double clear round. Jack Ryan and BBS McGregor were the fastest of these in 36.34 to take the top-spot.

The runner-up was Pacino Amiro and Kenneth Graham while third place went to Longfield Quinlui and Derek McConnell. Enniscrone Condios and Fraser Duffy finished in fourth place.

In the five-year-old final, 11 combinations were double clear to divide the win. The next and final leg of the series takes place in Galway Equestrian Centre on August 25th and 26th.
