FRESH from their amazing achievement of winning the Senior Schools Competition at the Hurst College National Schools championships held in Hickstead, students at Borris Vocational School are certainly going to be the ones to watch in the upcoming Equestrian Interschools Ireland League competition, the first leg of which gets underway next weekend.

At Hickstead, the Borris students competed against 28 other school teams, two of which were Irish and the remainder were gathered from the top schools in the UK.

With the top 10 teams from the first round going forward to compete in the Longines International arena, Borris were the only team to finish on a team score of zero after both rounds.

Borris also won the Senior individual title with another clear round and fastest time in the individual jump-off competition, with two other members finishing seventh and eighth.

That Borris VS were able to bring two teams to Hickstead is an achievement in itself with the Novice team qualifying from the final day of the Equestrian Interschools Ireland competition.

This group rode in the Junior Schools (u14) competition and did extremely well to again finish in the top 10 teams of their first round to compete in the Longines International arena.

Luck didn’t go with them but two of their four riders rode clear rounds qualifying them to compete in the Junior Individual Competition in which one member finished third and another eighth.

The first leg of the Equestrian Interschools Ireland League competition gets under way on September 8th and it will be all to play for.

Good luck to all competing schools!
