YOUNG rider Tony O’Donohue won the seven-year-old Irish Sport Horse Studbook Series final at Maryville last Sunday riding Cruising With Alice.
A very small startlist of just 10 lined out for the class at the Cork venue which had a generous prize fund of €2,700 and only two produced a first round clear. Both faulted once against the clock and O’Donohue was the fastest, stopping the clock in 37.71 seconds to take victory.
By Clover Flush out of the Cruising mare Ard Amusing, Cruising With Alice was bred by Patrick Keating and is owned by Jack O’Donoghue.
Second place went to Francis Connors riding Seamus Tighe’s Lough Scur Quality Lady, a mare by O.B.O.S. Quality 004 out of Lough Scur Sardiamond (Shannondale Sarco St Ghyvan) when they recorded a time of 41.36 with four faults to add.
Third place went to Clare Hughes’ ESI Jet Set (Balou Du Rouet x Quidam Junior) ridden by Seamus Hughes Kennedy, fourth was Paddy O’Donnell and his own Unforgettable (Sibon x Lim W). Fifth went to Jason Higgins riding Michael Condon’s Creevyquinn Pearl (Cardento x Corland) while sixth was Darragh Ryan and Courtwood Tinky (Tinka’s Boy - Carthago.
Six-year-olds
A healthier number of 22 lined out for the six-year-old final which was won by Vincent Byrne aboard Kayleigh Soden’s CBI Bella Donna.
In the nine-horse jump-off, six produced double clear rounds and Byrne’s was the best in 34.13 seconds. CBI Bella Donna is by Zapatero VDL and out of CSF Lulu (Luidam) and was bred by Aidan Carroll.
The runner-up spot went to Highfort Stud’s Much Loved, a mare by Luidam out of Larissa II (Libertino I), who was bred by Galway vet Philip McManus. Ridden by Francis Connors, the pair broke the finish beams in 34.14.
Emma Horgan’s Seaview Demonstration was guided to third place by Alan O’Regan. By FSS Corelli Bravo, the gelding is out of Galloway Star (Castlelawn Galloway) and was bred by James Keane. They crossed the finish in 34.53.
Michelle Kenny and Alan Breen’s home-bred AVM Bellissima (Cornet Obolensky x Cassini I) took fourth place in 34.98, ahead of Ciaran Ward in fifth with Roanwood My Hometown (Cruising Harry x Coevers Diamond Boy) who is owned by Colm McGrath, in 35.73.
Sixth place went to Jason Higgins riding his own and Meabh Bolger’s Heritage MBF, a gelding by Eldorado Van De Zeshoek, who was bred by Anne Marie O’Gorman.
Five-year-olds
Corlanda Junior, a mare by Womanizer out of Conanda (Corlando), ridden by Francis Connors and owned by Alberta Capital Ltd won the HSI Studbook Showjumping Series five-year-old final on Sunday morning, which attracted the biggest startlist of 25.
Connors guided the Joe Connaughton-bred mare to a double clear round in a jump-off time of 36.37 for first place.
Young rider Robyn Moran took the runner-up prize aboard Pat McDonnell’s Kilnamac Maud, a mare by OBOS Quality out of Kilnamac Stiletto (Lux Z), when they stopped the clock at 40.84.
Third went to Tracy Walshe riding her own home-bred gelding Ballinaguilkey Fusion Exchange (Tullabeg Fusion x OBOS Quality 004), in a time of 44.50.
Stephen Murphy riding another home-bred, She’s Got It (Luidam x Lux Z) were fourth in 45.77, while Shane Dalton and Clare Hughes’ BP Valentino (Stakkato Gold x Indoctro), bred by GBBS Int, slotted into fifth place in 45.92.
Sixth went to Tholm Keane with Norita Fives’ Mermus R Russel (Mermus R x Russel) who was bred by Adrian Shoer.
