GERARD Clarke and his own Cyruso H delivered the winning round in the 1.20m Midland Classic Championship at Mullingar International on Monday afternoon.

Some 37 combinations qualified for the final, and just eight managed to produce double-clear rounds. Clarke crossed the line with nothing to add in 30.37 to take home the lion’s share of the €3,000 on offer.

Sven Hadley added to his national rider title hopes when he took the runner-up spot with his own Topspin, clear in 31.10, ahead of Keith Moloney, who was riding Mikey Pender’s Zhardas Kil and clocked 31.14.

Jason Foley also kept all the poles in place with the Clare Hughes-owned Castlefield Kamira, clear in 31.26. Sven Hadley took another place in the line-up when he came home in 34.10 with Sumas Taloubet.

Taylor Peare and Lissyegan Geoffrey completed the top-six line-up when they crossed the line clear in 35.05.

1.10m Derravarra Championship

Monday’s 1.10m Derravarra Championship went down to the wire but in the end, it was Aileen McDermott who took the title and with it the winner’s share of the €3,000 prize fund on offer.

Riding the ever-reliable Amber Balou, she was fastest of 10 double clears in 28.09 seconds. Clodagh Lee and Erne Cruising Breeze crossed the line in 29.72 for second place, while Kirsti Connole and Zazu Van Terhofstede slotted into third, clear in 30.21.

Fourth place belonged to Aisling McGreal and Rincoola Macushla when clocking 31.12, ahead of Alex Reynolds and CES Sunny Crusie, in 31.12. Completing the top-six line-up was Nicola FitzGibbon and RNH Parisian Blue, clear in 32.73.

Ladies Championship

Aileen McDermott was on a winning streak and went on to claim the 1.10m Lake County Ladies Championship, which boasted a €1,000 prize fund. With just five double clears, McDermott and Amber Balou took the win when they galloped home in 31.79.

Holly Anne Sweetnam was under a second behind with Verdi Valintina, clear in 32.28. Marie Cosgrove opted for the safer option with the Martin Flesk-owned Killuppaun Magic, and clocked 34.03 for third.

Fourth place belonged to Leonie Dunne and Cavalino 26, who clocked 34.30, ahead of Joanna Penfold and King Cruise, in 38.21. Aine Shortall put in a very fast round with the Carol Gee-owned Fernhill Splash, but four faults in 34.87 would prove only good enough for sixth.

1m championship

Winner of the Charlestown Lilliput 1m Championship was Kevin O’Reilly when he galloped home aboard Furore S in a time of 31.83. Larias Ryan and Killycloghan Rising Star put in a gallant attempt, and a clear in 33.05 saw her take second.

Danni Murphy and Hilton DC slotted into third, when clear in 33.82, ahead of Robbie Healy and Riverfield Kannafanta, clear in 35.78.

Caroline Ryan and Failte Iroko won the amateur championship.
