DR NOEL Cawley’s home-bred mare Lissadell took the top honours in last Sunday’s Cavan Crystal five-year-old final, worth €6,500, under Ethan Ahearne.

By Plot Blue, Lissadell is out of Cawley’s home-bred mare Winter Cruise (by Cruising) who herself, out of Irco Rain, was a useful performer and is a half-sister to three Nations Cup horses.

“Lissadell is super careful and has been very consistent all year. She lights up when she gets into the ring and seems to really enjoy her job,” a delighted Ahearne said afterwards. “She has been clear in all the Horse Board classes that she has done and we are looking forward to seeing what the future has in store for her.

“She is owned by Noel and Lisa Cawley and they have been fantastic supporters for many years. Greg (Broderick) rode her mother, Winter Cruise, and was third in the four-year-olds in Dublin so she really is bred for the job.”

Aherne also finished in third place aboard his other mount, GBBS Int Ltd’s Muze Abby Moyne, breaking the beam in 39.14. By Bamako de Muze and out of Abby V Overis Z (Arko III) she was bred by PJ Ryan.

Speaking about the mare, Ahearn added: “She has just gotten better and better the more she does. She is very good against the clock and loves to compete. Much like Lissadell, she was born to jump. Her mother, Abby V Overis Z, won the four-year-olds in Dublin with Darragh Ryan in the saddle.

“We want to ensure that the breeding line continues. Greg’s sister Cheryl has already taken two embryos from her this year and the plan is to hopefully take a couple more.”

Crowning a brilliant day for Ballypatrick Stables, Max O’Reilly Hyland, who trains with Broderick, took the runner-up position with his own BP Limitless, winner of the Irish Breeders’ Classic in Barnadown at the end of August under Ballyptrick rider Kevin Gallagher.

Cavan was their first competitive outing together and they clicked straight away producing a superb double clear round with a jump-off time of 39.05, just slower than Aherne and Lissadell.

By Elvis Ter Putte, out of Ballypatrick Flight (Laughton’s Flight), BP Limitless was bred by Austin Broderick.

A total of 43 starters lined-out over the Alan Lynch-designed track and of these just 12 managed to produce double clear rounds.

Sven Hadley took fourth place when he and his own stallion Z7 Seven crossed the finish in 39.65. Bred by H.H Sheikha Maitha bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s Dubai-based Team Z7, the entire is by Sheikh It and out of Z Seven Diamond (Diamant De Semilly).

Brendan Murphy and Sandra Duffy’s Kannan gelding Knight Watch took fifth, stopping the clock at 39.70.

Hadley and his second mount, another stallion, HSH Harper Du Seigneur (Aganix Du Seigneur x Chippison) crossed the finish in 40.47 for sixth place.
