SORCHA Hennessy’s Inlaws Manolo and Derek McConnell won the Horse Sport Ireland six-year-old class in Killossery last Monday morning, where 10 of the 29 starters produced a double-clear round.
Bred by Tomas Hester, who collected the €1,500 breeders’ prize, Inlaws Manolo is a gelding by Corland out of Helena De Va Lie, by Lord Z.
With McConnell in the saddle, the pair have proved to be consistent, finishing in second place at the last round of the six-year-old league in Kernans at the start of the month.
On this occasion they went one better and produced a second round time of 30.48 to secure the top prize and the lion’s share of the €4,000 prize money.
Much like the afternoon’s Grand Prix result, Sligo’s Richard Kerins was once again the bridesmaid in this division when he took the runner-up spot with Dermot Gormanly’s Marius CK (Marius Claudius x Quality Time) in 31 seconds.
Linda Murphy rode Susan Fitzpatrick’s Castle Howard MRF Tiffen (Metropole x Classic Vision), who was bred by Mike Comerford, into third place in 31.34, while Sven Hadley was fourth with his own HSH Harper Du Seigneur (Aganix Du Seigneur x Chippison). Nicola FitzGibbon took fifth with Camira Blue (Fiero x Warrenstown You 2). Eddie Moloney completed the top six with Cornet Flight.
The second round of the four-year-old league, which also offered a €4,000 prize pot, saw 22 of the 34 starters produce a clear round to divide the spoils.
