CO WATERFORD’s Anthony Condon scored a runner-up finish in the curtain-closing three-star Grand Prix at Vilamoura last Sunday, as the 10-week long Atlantic Tour came to a conclusion at the Portuguese seaside venue.

Condon partnered John Hales’ stallion Aristio to one of five double clear rounds and their jump-off time of 48.18 seconds saw them finish less than a second behind Danish winner Martin Dinesen Neergaard with Woulon L.

Condon and Aristio have begun the 2016 season in impressive form, jumping a double clear round in February’s United Arab Emirates Nations Cup, where they also recorded a top-10 finish in the Grand Prix.

Nine combinations made it through to the jump-off in Vilamoura and among those was the Irish Sport Horse Fernhill Curra Quinn, ridden by Portugal’s Duarte Seabra.

Fernhill Curra Quinn, a nine-year-old gelding by Harlequin du Carel (SF) out of Ballyveskil Mist (ISH), by Clover Hill (ID), was bred by Thomas Hannon from Co Wicklow. Fernhill Curra Quinn had earlier scored a win at Vilamoura in last Saturday’s 1.40m jump-off class. Condon took third place with Balzac, while Harry Marshall slotted into sixth spot with Barcelona.

Kilkenny’s Michael Hutchinson was also in action in Vilamoura and finished eighth in a 1.40m two-phase class last Sunday with Chin Hin D Hyrencourt.
