LIMERICK’s Paul O’Shea captured the $100,000 Equine Insurance Services Great American Grand Prix at Lake Placid on board the Irish Sport Horse NLF Newsflash, bringing the two week 47th annual Lake Place Horse Show to a conclusion.

Owned by Erin Brunheim, the grey horse was one of just four in the jump-off, presented by Sea Shore Stables LLC, from 29 starters.

O’Shea revealed: “It was an unusual jump-off in that the first two riders retired. The third rider had one down.

“I was fourth and last to go and I had the same fence down, but I was quicker so it turned out to be a big advantage going last.

“Flash is a great Irish horse. He has a fantastic mind and can adapt to anything.”

O’Shea completed the eight-jump tiebreaker course with the best score of four faults in a time of 38.187 seconds.

David Raposa of Clinton, New York, finished second on the Belgian Warmblood, S&L Sage with five faults in 40.269.

Finishing third on Quointreau Un Prince was American Laura Chapot, who also placed fifth and eighth on a pair of Irish Sport Horses, ISHD Dual Star and Thornhill Kate.

American Olympic veteran Peter Leone tied Chapot for third on the Danish Warmblood, Wayfarer.

The Grand Prix win is the latest victory for O’Shea, who won two brand new Mini Cooper cars in recent weeks when he won the $30,000 Fairfield Grand Prix on Terceira and also the $25,000 Ox Ridge Grand Prix on Skara Glen’s Presence.
