NINE Irish show jumpers will line out in the lucrative Global Champions League for the 2020 season.

The Miami Celtics team of the last two seasons has been disbanded and has a completely new line-up with six new riders, none of which are Irish. Cameron Hanley has moved to the London Knight team, which comes as no surprise following his move to work for the team owners, Poden Farms.

Shane Breen will be part of Georgina Bloomberg’s New York Empire team for 2020, joining Denis Lynch. Winner of the Miami Beach leg last season with Breen, Michael Duffy is not part of a GCL team for 2020. Cian O’Connor, Shane Sweetnam and Daniel Coyle are also no longer involved with teams.

In-form

Joining the ranks for 2020 is Billy Twomey, now part of the Monaco Aces team, while in-form Mikey Pender has joined Athina Onassis’ St Tropez Pirates as the Under 25 rider.

Mark McAuley and Michael G Duffy remain with Madrid in Motion; Darragh Kenny with Paris Panthers and Bertram Allen with Valkenswaard United.

The first of 17 legs of the league kicks off in Doha from March 5th to 7th at the Al Shaqab arena, in conjunction with the Global Champions Tour.
