SHOWJUMPING Ireland and Eventing Ireland will continue to assess costs and packages for members who have paid 2020 fees as the sport is currently halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Showjumping Ireland said they will assess the situation when the sport returns. In response to a query from The Irish Field about the status of memberships, a spokesperson said: “As soon as show jumping is allowed to recommence, only at that juncture, will Showjumping Ireland be able to assess the situation.

“Only after taking into account the timeline of the situation, will Showjumping Ireland then be able to offer those members who have paid membership prior to the lockdown, a favourable package to reflect the downtime.

“This will be formulated through Management and Finance and ratified by the executive board after the recommencement of show jumping.”

Meanwhile, Eventing Ireland have made the decision to reduce staffing costs and are working with suppliers to review day-to-day costings for the organisation.

Eventing Ireland chairman, David O’Brien, said: “The Board of Eventing Ireland is continuing to fully review our needs and some difficult decisions are being made.

“Our primary sources of income are variable, being membership, horse registrations and entry levies.

“At the same time many of our costs are fixed, such as insurance, rent, website, amongst others and they continue to have to be paid. We are working with all our suppliers to review these costs.

“In addition, the difficult decision has been made to reduce staffing costs, and we have engaged with employees on this matter.”
