European jumping teams announced

BRITISH chef d’equipe Di Lampard announced a strong team for the FEI European Championships in Rotterdam later this month. The British, who won team gold in 2012 and individual gold in 2016, are chasing Olympic qualification after a disappointing season so far. Lampard welcomes Ben Maher (Explosion W) and Scott Brash (Hello M’Lady) return to a championship side, and are joined by Amada Derbyshire (Luibanta BH (ISH)), Laura Renwick (Dublin V) and Holly Smith (Hearts Destiny).

In other European team news, Belgium’s Nicola Philippaerts and H&M Chilli Willi have been ruled out after the 11-year-old stallion sustained a minor injury. Defending silver medallist Harrie Smolders will also miss the championships as his top mount, Don VHP Z N.O.P is not fit to compete.

IHB nominations

TWO Irish Horse Board members – Helen Kelly in Region 1 and John A Cogan in Region 5 – were re-elected unopposed in the recent Board elections. The sole election took place in Region 3 between two nominees; sitting member Elizabeth Deane and John O’Sullivan, where Elizabeth Deane was re-elected.

Star of the Month winner

CONGRATULATIONS to endurance riders Tom MacGuinness and Martin McNamara who were voted The Irish Field/Gain Equine Nutrition Star of the Month for June.

HSI strategic plan

HORSE Sport Ireland is launching its Strategic Plan 2019 to 2024 next Tuesday, on the eve of the 2019 Dublin Horse Show.

The Strategic Plan will set out HSI’s clear vision, mission, goals, objectives, target groups, target areas, strategic approaches and activities/projects for the next five years. A full report will appear in next week’s paper.

Women in show jumping

BRITISH show jumping chef d’equipe Di Lampard, Irish show jumper Susan Fitzpatrick and RDS Equestrian manager Fiona Sheridan will sit on a panel next Tuesday, ahead of the opening of the Dublin Horse Show, discussing women in show jumping, one of the most gender-blind sports in the world. However, despite this, there are still many challenges for women to succeed. This discussion coincides with 100 years of women in show jumping at the Dublin Horse Show. Tullamore Show

THE Tullamore Show and FBD National Livestock Show takes place next Sunday, August 11th.

Tullamore is Ireland’s premier agricultural event and very year it attracts the best cattle, sheep, and equine breeders from all over the country, alongside entrants for its other 1,000 plus competitions with a total prize-fund of €175,000. The final of the All Ireland Hunt Chase will be held at this year’s show, having lost its normal slot at the Dublin Horse Show.
