THE fourth round of the New Heights Champions Series due to run at Galway County Show on June 17th has been cancelled.

A spokesperson for Showjumping Ireland confirmed the national competition committee will meet soon to determine whether the fourth leg, which offers just over €9,000 in prize money, will go ahead at another suitable venue.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Galway County will no longer be running a leg of the New Heights Champions Series on the 17th of June. The national competitions committee will be meeting soon and will be looking for another suitable date and a venue which meet the criteria of running a New Heights Champions Series class to allow the series continue with nine legs,” SJI said.

TWO-DAY SHOW

This year’s Galway County Show is due to take place in dual venues following a struggle with ground conditions in their last venue beside the Galway Racecourse in Ballybrit. The show jumping classes will take place over two days (June 16th and 17th) at Duffy’s Equestrian Centre, as they did in 2017, while the in-hand and ridden show classes as well as all other activities will take place at the new venue on the airport road.

Although the New Heights Champions Series has been cancelled, Galway will run a leg of the Showjumping Ireland National Grand Prix on Sunday, June 17th at 3pm, and a Connacht Grand Prix on Saturday.

Sunday’s show close to the airport site will include over 20 Connemara Pony classes, IPS classes, a RDS side saddle and broodmare qualifier, Irish draught classes, a dog show and cattle and sheep classes.

As always, the show will offer a fun free kids area with two bouncy castles, pet farm, face painting and much more.
