WEXFORD show jumper Bertram Allen has debuted his new top mount, Harley vd Bisschop, at the two-star show in Kronenberg, The Netherlands and got off a perfect start with a double clear round in Friday morning’s 1.35m two-phase class.

Allen purchased the 11-year-old Belgian Warmblood stallion (Dulf van den Bisschop x Coronado) last month from Belgian show jumper Nicola Philippaerts and Ben Beavers. Speaking to The Irish Field on Wednesday morning before leaving for the show, Allen said ‘Harley’ has been the perfect gentleman so far.

“Everything is very good so far, he is very nice to do anything with at home. I will know more after this weekend and will probably take him to Maastricht (four-star) the following week to jump one bigger class. After that, we might go to Geneva (five-star) and that will be it then for this year,” Allen explained.

The stallion has been seen under Philippaerts since his seven-year-old year and the pair won the five-star Global Champions Tour in Estoril in June. Allen is aiming the horse at the 2019 European Championships.
