The Cavan team laid on open and novice team events and individuals competitions and also ran a 1.10m class.

Although the latter class was not a qualifier for the final, it was good practice for the competitors and was won in fine style by King’s Hospital rider Rebekah Forster on The Dam Buster. This combination had qualified for the final at Broadmeadow Equestrian Centre and took full advantage of this practice run.

The open team event was claimed by Newbridge College, its third win of the season. Newbridge was represented on this occasion by Hannah Sutton riding Caprice, Luke Heffernan on My Rockstown, Sarah Behan with Mullabaloo and Karen Casey riding Prima Donna Girl.

The King’s Hospital team of Rebekah Forster, Poppy Connolly Carew, Emma Smith and Ellen Forster took second place ahead of Dundalk Grammar. Dundalk Grammar was represented by Jack Jones, Adam Larkin and Sean Bird.

The result was reversed in the open individual when King’s Hospital rider Poppy Connolly Carew saw off Newbridge rival Karen Casey (Prima Donna Girl) to take the win. Connolly Carew rode Bella’s Money. Ellen Forster, also from King’s Hospital, finished third on Veronica’s Boy.

The novice team event was claimed by local school, Loreto College Cavan, as Sarah Reilly (Fred), Orla Henry (Loughville Ranger), Nicole Kilkenny (Jazmin) and Amanda Collins (Amber) saw off the challenge from Kildare Town Community School. The runner-up side included Gary Doolan, Scott McCullagh, Lauren Page and Katie Kelly. Dromore High School finished third.

Victory in the novice individual went Kiara Malcolmson riding Tyrine Molly, ahead of Victoria Boville on Toffee. Scott McCullagh (Hurdlestown Shay) took third place.

Primary schools were also catered for on the day and the primary novice class was won by Camryn Clarke riding Quantum Persia. The primary open class was shared between siblings Alannah (Lough Key Star) and Darragh Perrin (Ashrain).

Kildare Town Community School was judged best turned-out.
