BBS McGregor, bred and owned by Marguerite Ryan and ridden by her son Jack, won the seven-year-old final of the Irish Sport Horse Studbook Show Jumping Series at Mullingar International Show.

Twenty five combinations made it through to last Sunday’s final, of them 15 managed a first round clear to progress to the timed jump-off.

Harriet Ella Cooper and Trouville were pathfinders. They left all the fences intact for the first double clear in a time of 47 seconds exactly.

Next in was Mikey Pender riding Javas Gucci. Winners of a 1.35m Spring Tour Grand Prix in April this year this pair have proved that the transition to bigger fences has been a straightforward one for them and they delivered a fault-free round in 39.40 which would be good enough for eventual third place.

John Mulligan and Mohill Rosetta were third in, they too found no difficulty in clearing the fences stopping the clock at 41.07 which would keep them just inside the placings in sixth.

Carol Gee’s mare Miss Fernhill, ridden by Sophie Richards, left all the fences up but in a slower time of 41.94 to finish just outside the top six.

Curraghgraigue OBOS Flight and Gemma Phelan then produced the fifth double clear round in quite a slow 45.78.

Paddy O’Donnell and Inlaws Orinoco then added almost a further three seconds to that time to break the beam in 48.27.

Ryan was seventh to go with BBS McGregor. They began well taking just nine strides between fences one and two; they continued with this onward pace through the next four fences, and managed to complete their run with an onward eight strides from the sixth to the final fence which meant they stopped the clock at 38.54 to really put it up to the remaining five.

Jonathan Smyth riding Mulvin Lights Out provided a clear round just outside the 40-second mark in 40.62 as next to go which saw them take fifth place.

The ninth pair in, Louis Delplace and Solsboro Masterpiece, faulted at the fifth fence to finish with four faults to add in 43.54.

Eddie Moloney and Temple Alice got things back on track with a clear round in a good time of 39.05 which left them in the runner-up spot in the final line-up.

Pacino Amiro and Kenneth Graham saw their hope fade early on with an error at the first fence for four faults in 44.76.

Tara Dunne and Claddagh Martha didn’t touch a pole but were off the mark passing through the finish in 45.26 and out of the placings.

Killerisk Can Ya, partnered by Maura Counihan, became the 11th double clear but were too slow in 47.72.

The penultimate pair in, Olivia Roulston and Ms Valent, managed a clear round and in a decent time of 39.81 which would see them occupy fourth place.

As the class came to a close, the last to go Derek McConnell and Longfield Quinlui sealed their fate with an error at the first fence, they finished on four in 47.14.

Divided

In the five-year-old competition, a total of 10 combinations managed double clear rounds to divide the win. This number was matched in the six-year-old division where the top spot was also shared 10 ways.

The next leg of the series takes place at the Galway County Show on June 15th and 16th.
