FRIDAY at Mullingar International Horse Show played host to the Horse Sport Ireland Studbook Series finals in the five, six and seven-year-old divisions.

In the five-year-old final, 17 of the 51 starters delivered double clear rounds to share the €2,500 prize fund.

In the six-year-old class, set at 1.30m, the €2,500 prize fund was shared by three combinations after they delivered double clears. Fastest of those was Gerard Clarke and Drishoge Creed, in a time of 35.58. This combination went into this round in third place on the overall leaderboard. Owned by Gerard Clarke and bred by Gerard Clarke Jnr, the gelding is by Hector van d’Abdijhoeve out of the Zanzou R mare Evita.

Kevin Gallagher and the Noel Cawley and GBBS Int Ltd-owned BP Casablanca clocked 36.09. By Casall, the gelding was bred by Cawley out of the Cruising-sired mare Cruise Leaf.

The last double clear was delivered by Mikey Pender and Madgeslane Diva in a time of 36.19. Owned and bred by Pender, the mare is by Dignified Van’t Zorgvliet out of the OBOS Quality-sired Madges Lane Karol.

Seven-year-old final

In the seven-year-old final, 25 combinations qualified for the final.

From those original starters, five booked their place in the second round and four delivered double clears. Taking the win was Tomas Doyle and Monbeg Ruby when they came home in a time of 35.47 seconds.

Owned and bred by Tomas’ wife Marti Rudd, the mare is by Diamant de Semilly out of the Boherdeal Clover mare Ballycapple Mist.

Gerard Clarke was back in the line-up, taking second place with Castleforbes Gillian when they were fractions behind in a time of 35.88. Owned and bred by Lady Georgina Forbes, the mare by Kannan is out of the five-star Grand Prix winning mare Castleforbes Libertina. This combination also took the win in the round at Galway.

Young rider Molly Hughes Bravo and HHS Tokyo kept all the poles in place in a time of 36.12. Owned by Bravo Hughes, this home-bred is by Z Seven Ascot out of the Catoki mare HHS Fortune who Molly was also competing at Mullingar and the pair recently won the one-star Grand Prix in Madrid.

Last of the double clears in a time of 36.66 was Emma O’Dwyer and Carrickview Emerald. Jointly owned by Dwyer and Heather Blair and bred by Cormac McKay, the gelding is by Emerald Van’t Ruytershof out of Daisy Cruise (Cruise On).

Jack Brennan proved out of luck when he had one on the ground with MHS Everything in a time of 36.42. Owned by Sinead Brennan and bred by the late Ita Brennan, the mare is by Quidam Junior I out of the Cavalier Royale-sired dam Gowran Lady, making her a full-bother to the 2016 Rio Olympic horse MHS Going Global.

Fastest of the four-faulters in the first round (70.95) was Sean Glynn and Tangelina for sixth place. Owned by Seamus Heverin and bred by Ronan Byrne the mare is by Tangelo van Ve Zuut Hovee out of Urban Sea (Guidam) who previously produced the Lankan world champion Rockwell RC.
