NO stranger to success in the young horse arena at Millstreet, Mikey Pender was back in the ribbons as he took the win in the Millstreet Ruby Five-Year-Old Grand Prix Final. Riding his own Madges Lane Caprice, he delivered a clear in the winning time of 39.98 seconds.

In total 34 went to post and of those, eight delivered double clears. Jack Ryan and Jadore were fractions behind when clocking 40.17, ahead of Kate Derwin and Fernhill Check Your Pocket in 41.71. Slotting into fourth were Liam O’Meara and The Last Samurai, clear in 42.13, ahead of Kellie Allen and Eclat, clear in 42.94. Sixth place belonged to John Mulligan and Katrina’s Boy, clear in 42.98.

Boomerang double

Pender returned later in the day to take victory in the Boomerang Grand Prix Six/Seven-Year-Old Final. This time riding Marion Hughes’ HHS Fast Forward, Pender lodged the winning clear in 39.73. Taking the runner-up spot was young rider Seamus Hughes Kennedy with Cuffesgrange Cavadora, clear in 40.89, ahead of Dermott Lennon and Athletix Hero, clear in 42.69. Slotting into fourth place was Francis Connors with Erne Mountain Dew, clear in 44.93, while in fifth was Sarah Connell with Coolmeen Fair Exchange, clear in 46.40. Not content with the win, Pender also took sixth with HHS Vancouver, four faults in 40.58 and seventh with MHS Cardenta, four faults in 41.10.

Victory for Healy

Nano Healy emerged as the victor of the 1.20m Seven-Year-Old and Over Horse Grand Prix Final, fastest of the double clears with Zhsrdas Kil in 26.73. Paul Beecher and Asti 71 were over a second behind in 27.86 for second, ahead of Raphael Lee and Federale Du Houssoit, clear in third (27.99). It was another good result for Hadley Sport Horses as Tori Dunn took fourth with Realt Na Carrig, clear in 28.97, ahead of Micheal Lillis and Portglorian Cruise, clear in 29.35. Sixth place belonged to Liam Filan and Corinto when they kept all the poles in place in 30.34.

Win for Curran

Taking the win and the runner-up prize in the 1.00m Five-Year-Old and Under Horse Grand Prix Final was Saoirse Curran who lodged her best result with Quality for Sure, clear in 39.63, and a clear with Curraghgraigue Bos in 41.11.
