GERMAN show jumper Marco Kutscher returned home to his base in Bad Essenlast night after he signed himself out of hospital.

The 41-year-old and his mount Van Gogh, a 14-year-old KWPN stallion, suffered a crashing fall during the Loro Piana Grand Prix at Piazza di Siena in Romeat the weekend.

The rider was briefly trapped underneath his horse and removed from the arena by ambulance in a stretcher.

The rider was hospitalised at Umberto I hospital in Rome and show organisers have issued a statement which read:

“The doctors had advised him to stay one more day, but Marco preferred to sign his dismissal,”commented Eleonora Ottaviani, show director of the event, who paid Kutscher a visit on Sunday evening and Monday morning. Just as anticipated last night, the rider reported no injuries.”

The German rider was due to fly home last night.
