IRELAND’s Denis Lynch won the Golden Whip trophy with a Grand Prix victory at Norten-Hardenberg in Germany last Sunday, collecting the €15,000 winner’s prize.

Riding Thomas Straumann’s 15-year-old gelding Abbervail Van Het Dingeshof, the Tipperary rider outpaced Brazil’s Marlon Modolo Zanotelli and the 11-year-old Zerlin M by just under a second in the hotly-contested six horse jump-off.

Ireland was also well represented in Saturday night’s three-star Norten-Hardenberg championship class, with Co Down’s Dermott Lennon and the Irish Sport Horse Loughview Lou Lou claiming third place, and Mayo’s Cameron Hanley and Z Acodate Ddl taking fifth.

Lennon also had a win on Wibowee in the German speed class on Saturday, while Meath’s Cian O’Connor took a second place in the Gothaer Trophy with Quidam’s Cherie.
