HAILED as a major success for Horse Sport Ireland in 2015, the Jumping in the City series which took place over three rounds looks likely to be downsized for 2016.

More details will be known with its official launch shortly but The Irish Field understands the series - which was the brainchild of Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney TD (FG) - could even be reduced to a single round, most likely taking place in the capital.

Ahead of the launch, Horse Sport Ireland would not confirm details, however an HSI spokesperson said: “We are finalising contracts with the Irish Greyhound Board at the moment, once this is agreed with both parties, details will be disclosed.”

Last year the series was filmed and aired on terrestrial tv, but according to sources, it is doubtful as to whether it will appear on terrestrial tv this year. Filmed by Irish Horse TV, sources said that the tv company may not be filming the series and negotiations are ongoing with a new company to take over the role. Earlier in the week at the Rio launch in Abbotstown, Irish Horse TV were not present and another production company were filming the event.

Last year the Jumping in the City series kicked-off on June 5th in Limerick greyhound stadium and then moved to Curraheen Park greyhound stadium in Cork on June 12th, with the successful final taking place in Shelbourne Park greyhound stadium in Dublin city on Friday, June 26th last.
