ROBYN Moran and European Cruise won the 1.10m championship final last Monday morning in Barnadown.

A total of 57 lined out for the class and 15 managed to produce double clear rounds. European Cruise is a 10-year-old gelding by Cruising out of Hortensia De Litrange, by Quel Hero De Muze, and Moran guided him to the fastest round in the jump-off breaking the finish beam in a time of 28.23 to claim the victory.

Lorraine MacGuinness and the North Louth Horse Park-owned 11-year-old mare Horseware Kinmar Night took the runner-up spot in 30.01. Third place went to Leonie Dunne riding her own German-bred gelding Cavalino 26 in 30.94.

Robin Carey dominated in the 1.20m championship final with the eight-year-old gelding CTS Peanuts.

Some 71 combinations lined out for the competition and just 16 produced double clear rounds. A very fast round of 27.79 secured the win for Carey.

Waterford’s Paddy O’Donnell and Angela Lynch’s Seefin Surprise, a nine-year-old mare by Road To Happiness out of Oprah, by Grey Macha, took second a full second slower in 28.79.

The third spot was claimed by Gerard Clarke Jnr riding his own eight-year-old gelding Meranti (Mermus R x Loch Cruise) in 30.29.

Once again it was a young rider who earned the top spot in the 1.30m championship final. Isabel Fitzpatrick saw off stiff competition from some 34 starters to secure the win. It was tight at the top with less than a second separating the top-four finishers.

Partnering Harry and Barbara Fitzpatrick’s eight-year-old mare SHW Candies Diamond (Van Gogh x Numero Uno), the pair stopped the clock at 32.59.

Lucinda Roche and her own 10-year-old mare Heartstring (Heartbreaker x Ircolando) were just slightly slower in 32.74 to occupy second place.

Junior rider Seamus Hennessy and Lorcan Hennessy’s eight-year-old gelding King Louis (Locarno 62 x Baloubet du Rouet) finished third in 32.89, while Emer Kavanagh and MHS Tamara (OBOS Quality x Cavalier Royale) slotted into fourth in 33.71.

Monday’s result showed just how much the two ladies at the top had dominated the 1.30m division over the weekend; in Saturday’s class it was Roche that took the win with Izar Lb in a time of 25.99, while Fitzpatrick was the runner-up with AHW Candies Diamond in 27.66.

Sandwiched between the two, Sunday’s 1.30m final was won by young rider Abigail Boland riding The Hurricane. They stopped the clock at 30.24, well ahead of second-placed Kevin Gallagher and his own 10-year-old Swedish-bred mare Painrich in 32.88.

This weekend the National show jumping action moves north to Portmore where they will host the 12th round of the 1.40m Underwriting Exchange National Grand Prix league.
