Portuguese win for Jeremy Sweetnam

CORK’s Jeremy Sweetnam came out on top in last Friday’s 1.45m two-phase class at the three-star show in Vilamoura, Portugal. Riding Nicola Pohl’s 11-year-old gelding Sir Landal Joter (Singulord Joter x Landadel), the 21-year-old produced the fastest double clear, in 34.52 seconds, to collect €5,500. The following day, the combination placed third in the 1.45m Table A, with a clear in 66.20 to add another €3,600 to their healthy prize haul.

Marshall second

ALSO in action in Vilamoura, Co Antrim’s Harry Marshall finished second in Friday’s three-star 1.35m with Kristopher Marshall’s 10-year-old grey stallion Chirokko M (Diamant de Semilly x Chin Chin), who was produced in Ireland by Edward Doyle and his son Edward Jnr.

The combination finished fifth in Sunday’s 1.50m Grand Prix when faulting once in the jump-off in a time of 43.59 seconds.

The Grand Prix was won by Britain’s Emma Stoker and Townhead Tallulah V (Tabasco LS x Calvados) with the quickest clear in 43.27 seconds.

Irish Sport Horses featured in the line-up – Britain’s Peter Charles with ABC Quantum Cruise (by OBOS Quality) picked up just one time fault in the first round to finish 11th, just place ahead of Cork’s Billy Twomey and the Luidam-sired Pewit Nono.

Win for Anna Duff

ASHBOURNE’s Anna Duff picked up a win in Darmstadt-Kranichstein, Germany, last weekend. Riding her father Brian’s Irish Sport Horse BEC Lorenzo (SIEC Livello x Guidam), Duff came out on top in the one-star 1.30-1.40m Table A with a clear round in 73.91 seconds. She then placed third in Sunday’s two-phase 1.40m with a double clear in 29.84 seconds.

Mayo’s Jonathan Gordon was also in action at the venue and finished third in Sunday’s 1.35m with Conchita (Cornet Obolensky x Corrado II).
