KILDARE native Mikey Pender continued his recent good form last weekend in Oliva, Spain, as he secured victory in the last class of the day on Thursday, the two-star 1.40m (Gold Tour).

Riding the Irish Sport Horse mare HHS Fortune (Catoki x Ard VDL Douglas), bred by Marion Hughes, he took the win with the fastest of 21 clear rounds in a time of 28.85. Pender delivered another good performance on Saturday afternoon in the Gold Tour 1.45m. In a starting field of 60, he slotted into third with HHS Calais, when clear in a time of 37.15 to earn €3,825. Taking the win was German rider Richard Vogel and Lesson Peak, in a time of 35.38.

In Thursday morning’s 1.45m Grand Prix Qualifier, Ireland was well represented in the line-up. Richard Howley claimed the runner-up spot with the 10-year-old stallion Fame after delivering a clear in 64.69. The combination was beaten to the winners’ enclosure by Andres Vereecke and the Diamant de Semilly-sired d’Artagan RR, who clocked 62.09. Taking third place in 64.92 was Wexford’s Harry Allen aboard Pembroke.

Alexander Butler was also in the ribbons at the Spanish venue and finished second in Friday’s 1.35m Silver Tour riding Gaston d’Ecaussinnes. The pair produced a clear round in 60.47 seconds, just behind French rider Alix Ragot and Ceylan de Blondel, clear in 62.64. Christopher Megahey slotted into seventh placed with the eight-year-old mare Mistery van het Hellehof.

On Saturday, Shane Moloney make his presence felt in the 1.30m Accumulator when he was one of 10 who finished on the maximum score of 65 and in a time of 52.19 for third place.

One-two for Allen brothers

The Allen brothers from Co Wexford were in the ribbons on Sunday when finishing first and second in the one-star 1.40m Grand Prix. From a startlist of 40, 14 made it through to the jump-off, where Bertram produced the winning round with the seven-year-old gelding Voltanos. Their time of 39.03 seconds was just under a second faster than Harry aboard the seven-year-old Italy HDH.

Alexander Butler added to his tally when finishing fourth with Gaston d’Ecaussinnes, clear in 40.38, while Megahey also finished inside the top 10 in ninth place with Mistery van het Hellehof (0/0 42.95).
