BOTH Max and Tom Wachman added big wins to their list of achievements at last week’s Winter Equestrian Festival in Florida, USA.

Max (17) opened the week with victory in Wednesday’s two-star 1.40m class aboard Coolmore Showjumping’s nine-year-old gelding Ikaros. The combination were the fastest of 23 clear rounds in a huge class of 72 starters to land victory ahead of USA’s Rebecca Conway in second place with Con Coleur (0/0 27.20). USA also took third place when Paris Sellon guided Anna Jo to a clear in 27.65 seconds. Co Clare’s David Blake slotted into fifth place with Don’t Touch du Bois (0/0 28.03).

His grandfather, John Magnier, owner of the world famous Coolmore Stud, was on hand to see his grandson win at the Wellington venue.

Tom (16) won Sunday’s 1.45m Junior Grand Prix in the main arena aboard the experienced 15-year-old gelding Atlantic du Seigneur. Double handed in the six-horse jump-off, Wachman produced the only clear round against the clock with the gelding to win ahead of USA’s Hunter Champey.

He also finished fifth with the 11-year-old gelding H H Fireball.

Two-star win for Coyle

Derry’s Jordan Coyle won Friday’s two-star 1.45m Table A. Riding Elan Farm’s Warnike, he was the best of just six clear rounds in a time of 63.12 seconds to earn just under $2,000. USA’s Anna Dryden slotted into second with Carioca K (0/ 65.76).
