THREE Irish show jumpers finished in the top six in the two-star Grand Prix at Tryon Equestrian Centre in North Carolina last Sunday. Limerick’s Paul O’Shea was the best of those in the runner-up position with Imerald van’t Voorhof, collecting just over $14,000 for his double clear in 42.37 seconds.

Eight combinations made it through to the jump-off and Kilkenny’s Richie Moloney also produced a clear in the timed round aboard the Stephen Keane-bred Irish Sport Horse Rocksy Music (Ars Vivendi x Diamond Serpent) to finish in fifth place.

Co Clare’s David Blake was just one place behind aboard the 10-year-old Zento-sired gelding Dy Zento (0/0 45.52). Victory in the Grand Prix went to America’s Leslie Burr-Howard and Donna Speciale (0/0 42.16), who took home a cheque for $23,100.

TYNAN VICTORY

Kilkenny’s Willie Tynan won Sunday’s two-star 1.45m jump-off class aboard the eight-year-old mare Fancy Girl. The combination were the fastest of five double clears in the second round in a time of 39.77 seconds to collect almost $13,000.

Tynan was also placed fifth in Thursday’s 1.45m with the Irish-bred KEC City Limits (KEC Maximum Joe x Aldatus). Richie Moloney was two places ahead in third place with Merqusio (0/0 39.04). Victory went to Mexico’s Santiago Lambre and Doloris (0/0 38.12).
