TIPPERARY’s Shane Breen made a winning start to the indoor show jumping season, after claiming the top prize in last Friday’s five-star speed class at Oslo, Norway.

Riding the 13-year-old stallion Golden Hawk, he posted the winning clear in 65.09 seconds to take home just over €6,500. Breen beat off the challenge from German rider Christian Kukuk on Lacasino, who delivered a clear in 65.58.

Breen was also among the prizes winners in the later Puissance competition when finishing third with the eight-year-old stallion Colmar.

Meanwhile, in the 1.45m class, Offaly’s Darragh Kenny and Billy Dorito’s clear in 68.51 ensured them sixth place. Later in the day in the 1.50m, Kenny and Cassini Z were best of the Irish when they slotted into fourth after delivering a clear in 40.63. Further down the line, Breen featured when he delivered a clear aboard CSF Vendi Cruz, in 43.17 for seventh.

Last Sunday, the Irish contingent put in another good performance in the 1.50m class. Michael Duffy delivered a clear with Quintano in a time of 38.91, which ensured him eventual fourth.

Little separated the next placing as Kenny and Classic Dream crossed the line with nothing to add in 38.95. Tipperary’s Denis Lynch and the Sinner slotted into sixth in the final jump-off class when they crossed the line clear in 49.24.
