WEXFORD show jumper Harry Allen (17) rounded off a good week at the two-star show in Barbizon, France, with a victory in Sunday’s 1.40, Table A, as well as a runner-up finish in the Grand Prix.
Riding Ballywalter Farms’ EH Quick Nina (Quidam’s Rubin x Camiros), Allen posted the quickest time of 57.36 seconds to collect €750, ahead of France’s Benoit Cernin in second place.
He followed-up that result with a runner-up finish in the 1.45m Grand Prix aboard Cheese W Z (Chatman x Galoubet). The young rider was one of eight to make it through to the jump-off and his clear round against the clock in a time of 38.74 was just slower than Frenchman Jeremy Le Roy and Razzia Des Sables (0/0 38.27). Allen picked up €4,940 for his efforts.
Co Cork’s Hannah O’Shea was another Irish rider flying the tricolour at the French venue, claiming victory in Saturday’s one-star 1.20m with Senator W, a 19-year-old gelding by Calvados. O’Shea’s round of 62.11 was the fastest of the day. Helen Gould finished fourth with the Irish Sport Horse Coolatting Little George (Prospect Diamonds x Glen Bar).
O’Shea was second in Sunday’s 1.25m with Ciao Bella when clear in a time of 58.59 seconds.
