CORK’s Billy Twomey scored an excellent fourth place finish in the three-star Grand Prix of Nörten-Hardenberg in Germany last weekend.
Aboard the promising and well-bred nine-year-old stallion Chat Botte E.D (Casall x Darco), owned by Twomey and his long-time sponsor Sue Davies, he was one of five combinations from the 49-strong startlist to make it through to the second round in the 1.60m class.
The combination again produced a clear round in the jump-off, breaking the beam in 40.66 seconds to slot into fourth place in the biggest class of their partnership to date. British-based Twomey took over the ride on the stallion from The Netherlands’ Johnny Pals last November and they placed third in a 1.50m at the four-star Liverpool International a month later.
Germany’s Finja Bormann won Sunday’s Grand Prix with the winning round in 36.55 seconds aboard A Crazy Son of Lavina. Twomey earned €5,025 for fourth place.
His other placing came in Saturday’s 1.45m Table A when he slotted into fifth place with the 10-year-old gelding Kimba Flamenco (Je t’Aime Flamenco x Heartbreaker) after a clear round in 60.75 seconds. The combination won the five-star CSIO Grand Prix in Falsterbo last July.
