IRISH rider Jack Ryan took centre-stage at the final day of the Bolesworth International Horse Show when, after an impressive week of results, he won the two-star 1.30m jump-off class.

The young rider came on up trumps with Ann Marie Fagan’s seven-year-old gelding Essenar High Hopes, clocking 43.04 seconds in the jump-off.

The quality of his performance was underlined by a three-second winning margin from Oxfordshire teenager Oliver Fletcher, riding Temple Rebus.

Galway’s Stephen Moore slotted into seventh place in that final with Vlock Show Stables’ seven-year-old stallion Chic Chic.

Max O’Reilly Hyland was best of the Irish in the two-star Grand Prix when he finished in third place on the podium aboard his father Charles’ Ahmed du Calvaire. Now based at Ballypatrick Stables and trained by Greg Broderick, O’Reilly Hyland picked up a single time fault in the first round but that was good enough to see him back for the jump-off, and a clear against the clock in 56.99 helped him collect just over £3,000.

Matt Garrigan was clear in the first round but four faults in round two saw him drop down to sixth place with the Irish Sport Horse MHS La Scala (CDl Groep Verdi TN x Cavalier Royale). Victory went to USA’s Julie Welles with Nouvelle.

Garrigan had a number of good placings, including a runner-up finish in Saturday’s 1.40 jump-off class with Contino 56 and another second and fifth with MHS La Scala at 1.45m level.
