KILKENNY’s leading young rider Jack Ryan won three one-star young horse classes with David Cullen’s five-year-old KWPN-bred mare J’Adore at Sentower Park last week.

Bred by Stal Meursing, the Zavall VDL mare won the five-year-old class on Thursday and Friday before going on to take victory in Sunday’s final, keeping a clean sheet for the duration of the show. The 17-year-old took over the ride on the horse in early 2019, having been produced as a four-year old by Michaeli Byrne and Tadhg Kearney.

Ryan’s other good results included a runner-up finish in Friday’s CSI2* 1.40m two-phase class with his experienced Irish Sport Horse mare Cavalier Teaca (Glidawn Diamond x Cavalier Royale). His time of 28.17 seconds was the second fastest of 35 double-clear rounds in the massive 85-strong startlist.

He guided the eight-year-old Essenar High Hopes to third place in a time of 28.63 seconds. Victory went to Germany’s Oliver Lemmer with Chacco’s Anna (0/0 27.21).

Essenar High Hopes, a promising Phin Phin gelding, also placed fourth in Saturday’s 1.45m jump-off class. The combination were among four clears in the first round and dropped two poles against the clock to finish fourth. Britain’s Chloe Aston took victory. Jamie Landers won two classes on Thursday aboard Lady Georgina Forbes’ horses. Castleforbes Donatella won the one-star 1.10m, before Forbes’ home-bred Castleforbes Vitoria (Vivaldo van het Costersveld x Carthago Z) won the 1.20m two-phase.

Tipperary’s Trevor Breen was also in action at the venue. The British-based show jumper finished third in Thursday’s 1.35m with Lord Luidam, and they went on to placed third in Saturday’s 1.35m with another double clear round.

Anna Carway picked up a placing in Sunday’s 1.40m Accumulator aboard her mare Claricella. Meanwhile, Alan Kelly finished sixth in Saturday’s one-star Grand Prix with Tourano. He was one of 10 to make it through to the jump-off, where a second clear round in a time of 39.10 seconds left him in sixth place.

Anna Duff also scored a 1.35m runner-up finish with Starrio, ahead of Ian Fives in fifth with Lisca H. Fives went on to finished third in the seven-year-old final with Horinde H.
