Three-star win for Offaly’s Kevin Mealiff

OFFALY’s Kevin Mealiff was in winning form at Tryon International Equestrian Centre recently.

The Offaly man won a three-star 1.50m class at the venue aboard the 11-year-old gelding Tupac van de Vrombautshoeve Z when best of five clear rounds in a competitive jump-off to earn just over $12,000.

Israel’s Brittni Raflowitz finished second with Hilton van de Breepeol, ahead of Mexico’s Santiago Lambre and Comtess 202.

Mealiff works for Darragh Kenny’s Oakland Stables, running the operation from New York.

Fitzpatrick wins in France

KILKENNY’s Susan Fitzpatrick had a successful show in Canteleu, France, where she won both the one-star Grand Prix and the six-year-old final last Sunday. She guided Isabelle De Melo’s 12-year-old gelding Verdict de Kezeg to victory in the 1.35m class with the fastest clear against the clock in 37.13 seconds.

Verdict, who won numerous classes with Fitzpatrick last summer, spent the beginning of the season in Wellington, Florida, being ridden by Canada’s Erin Ballard. Fitzpatrick won the six-year-old final with her mother Sharon’s Dominator 2000 Z-sired mare Domino Van Het Gehucht Z with a lovely double clear round.

Two-star win for Mark McAuley

CO LOUTH show jumper Mark McAuley won a two-star class in Cluny, France, last Sunday. Riding the nine-year-old mare O’Hara Els, he won €1,000 when producing the fastest clear round in the 1.40m class in a time of 62.85 seconds.

Co Clare’s Eoin McMahon runner-up in Sentower Park

CLARE’s Eoin McMahon was runner-up in the 1.45m two-star Grand Prix in Sentower Park, Belgium, last Sunday. He was riding his Nations Cup partner Chacon 2 and was among 10 to make it through to the jump-off, where a clear round in 41.08 seconds was just bettered by Dutchman Michel Hendriz with Hendrick’s HX (0/0 40.13).

Owned by the great German owner Madeleine Winter-Schulze, Chacon 2 jumped double clear in the five-star Nations Cup of Rotterdam earlier this month.
