CONOR Swail was back in winning form in Canada last weekend when landing Friday’s $35,000 CSI2* Open Welcome aboard Flower at Caledon Horse Park in Ontario.

Campaigned well at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Florida during the winter months, the 12-year-old Bon Ami-sired mare had a short break before travelling to Canada. Previously owned by Nina Fagerstrom, Swail and his Canandian client Vanessa Mannix have now bought the mare in partnership.

In the opening class, Swail posted an unbeatable time of 39.49 seconds to claim victory. His closest competitor was fellow Irishman Daniel Coyle, who guided Sue and Ariel Grange’s Cita (Casall x Pik Ramiro) to a marginally slower clear round in 39.62 seconds.

The Irish duo carried that form through to Sunday’s $50,000 Horseware Ireland Grand Prix, where both Swail and Coyle finished on the podium in the class won by Canada’s 10-time Olympian Ian Millar.

Swail and Flower stopped the clock less than a second behind Miller in 34.82 seconds, while Coyle was fractionally shower in 35.05 seconds with Cita. It was a good day for the Grange’s Lothlorien Farm, who also own Millar winning mount Dixson.
