Breen takes over Hallowberry Cruz

BRITISH-based Shane Breen has taken over the ride on the Traditional Irish Sport Horse Hallowberry Cruz (Cruising x Clover Hill). Produced through the ranks up to Nations Cup level by Alexander Butler, Breen took over the ride last month and placed second in a two-star 1.40m in Wettenhall last weekend. Owned by Caroline Byrne, the 11-year-old stallion was clear in 52.40 seconds.

On another new mount, Team Z7’s Can Ya Makan (Canturo x Fier de Lui Z), Breen was seventh in Sunday’s 1.30m, producing a four fault round in the jump-off in a time of 39.99.

Kerins second

SLIGO’s Darragh Kerins placed second in the two-star $86,000 Adequan Grand Prix at Tyron Equestrian Centre in the USA. Riding Remarkable Farm LLC’s 11-year-old stallion Silteplait De Circee, Kerins was one of six double clears in 41.38 seconds, picking up $17,200. America’s Kristen Vanderveen and Bull Run’s Faustino De Tili were victorious in 38.34 seconds.

Condon placed

ANTHONY Condon and Balzac (Oklund x Frisbee Kerellec) finished sixth in the two-star Grand Prix at Wettenhall in Britain last Sunday. Fresh from a four-star Grand Prix win at Bolesworth International, the pair were one of nine clear rounds to take it on against the clock. They posted the quickest round of the class in 40.59 seconds but four faults saw they slip down to sixth place, collecting just over £1,200. Britain’s James Smith won aboard Balibu (0/0 41.57).

Twomey win

CORK’s Billy Twomey won Friday’s 1.45m jump-off class at CSI2* Wettenhall in Britain. Riding Kim Barzilay’s eight-year-old Kimba Flamenco (Je t’Aime Flamenco x Heartbreaker), Twomey picked up £7,590 when producing the fastest clear against the clock in 35.07 seconds. Earlier in the day, Twomey was runner-up in the 1.40m jump-off aboard Joe Flynn’s Traditional Irish Sport Horse stallion Ardcolum Duke (Gypsy Duke x Clover Hill), with a clear in 40.30 seconds.

Top Irish placings in Wettenhall

PAUL Kennedy, Peter Moloney, David Simpson and Richard Howley all enjoyed good placings at the two-star show in Wettenhall, Britain. Riding Dominic Webb Horses LLP’s Alvatore (Salvatore x Animo’s Hallo), Kennedy was fourth in Friday’s 1.30m (0/0/28.82), before finishing runner-up in Saturday’s class.

David Simpson was third in Saturday’s 1.40m Accumulator with the 11-year-old gelding Starfighter (Stalypso x Contendro I), picking up the maximum points in 45.40 seconds. The Derry man picked up another third place with his own Unex Cognac IV (AD Unaniem x Kennedy) in Friday’s 1.45m, behind Billy Twomey.

Peter Moloney was third in a 1.45m two-phase with Babilonia, double clear in 30.55 seconds.
