YOUNG rider Jenny Rankin picked up a hat-trick of wins at the Spring Mediterranean Equestrian Tour in Spain, while Co Monaghan’s Clem McMahon scored a 1-2 in last Saturday’s world ranking class before going on to finished fourth in the two-star Grand Prix.

Rankin, who is from Omagh in Co Tyrone but currently based with Richard and Deirdre Bourns’ Lisbeg Farm in Co Galway, guided the Irish Sport Horse Beech Hill Lucia to three one-star victories in as many days.

The eight-year-old mare by Luidam came out on top in Thursday’s 1.35m Table A when Rankin guided her to the fastest clear round in 67.88 seconds. The combination repeated that performance in Saturday’s 1.35m with another clear round in 62.38 to top the class once again.

Their final win came in Saturday morning’s two-phase 1.40m, where the Alex Tracy-bred chesnut produced another jumping exhibition to complete the second round in 38.14 seconds, picking up €750 for first place.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a fantastic spring tour at the Spanish venue, picking up many placings and rounded off an excellent week with a double clear in Sunday’s two-star Grand Prix aboard Tullibards Benny’s Legacy to finish in 13th place.

Clem McMahon was the best of the Irish in the 1.45m feature class, finishing in fourth place with Pacato.

In a class which saw 20 combinations return for the jump-off and 14 of those produce double clears, McMahon and the Pacino-sired stallion posted a quick clear in 43.00 seconds to pick up €3,000.

The eight-year-old Hilton Farm-owned chesnut is out of a Cavalier Royale mare and was bred by Peter Rice.

Co Mayo’s Cameron Hanley finished eighth with Quirex, also producing a double clear in 43.56 seconds. Dutchman Robert Vos was victorious aboard Carat (0/0 41.28).

McMahon recorded an Irish Sport Horse 1-2 in Saturday’s two-star ranking class, winning aboard Charlotte Gibson’s Aldaluck (Aldato x Rasson Boy).

The nine-year-old was the quickest against the clock in 39.70 seconds.McMahon guided Pacifico (Pacino x Aldatus Z) to second place in 40.38.

Trevor Coyle and Gravity of Greenhill filled fourth spot (0/0 42.96), while Cameron Hanley was seventh aboard Aiyetoro (0/4 41.66).

Tyrone’s Frank Curran posted another win for Ireland in Saturday’s two-star 1.30m Accumulator class.

Curran guided the Irish Sport Horse Oliver Twist (Oliver x Dawnes Choice) to record a maximum of 65 points in 49.95 seconds.

Trevor Coyle also recorded the maximum 65 points in a slower time of 53.91 seconds to finish third with Caju (Cristo x Jefferson).

Riding Arany de Kergane (Nervoso x l’Arc de Triomphe), Cameron Hanley won last Thursday’s seven-year-old 1.35m class with a double clear in 33.56 seconds.

He also guided Balthazar (Untouchable x Calato) to sixth place in Friday’s two-star 1.45m (0/0 38.76).
