KATIE Power won the CSIP Grand Prix in Opglabbeek, Belgium, on Saturday to earn €500. Riding Mary Power’s nine-year-old Irish Sport Horse Carrigeen Moores, by Moore Clover, Power was the best of eight double clear rounds in the 14-horse jump-off.
Their time of 35.76 seconds was almost a second faster than British runner-up Tatiane Mauree and Horseabout Zibu (0/0 36.58), and Ireland’s Max Foley slotted into third place with Valma de Fougnard (0/0 36.60).
Orla Duffy, who just missed out on a top-10 finish in the Grand Prix, won two classes at the venue aboard Sandra Duffy’s Vales Blue Song. The first came in Friday’s two-phase class when they were the quickest in 23.74 seconds. She also guided her second mount Sunny to third place, breaking the beam in 25.08 seconds, ahead of Foley and Bearna Rua Jenny in fourth (0/0 25.51).
Foley landed a win of his own in Friday’s Table A riding Jean-Baptiste Llanas’ Valma de Fougnard. The combination broke the beam in 50.33 seconds, fractions faster than Britian’s Elsi Jacques.
Junior Grand Prix
Jason Foley was best of the Irish in the 1.40m Junior Grand Prix. He guided Gerard O’Neil and Matteo Pelmglio’s seven-year-old mare Madorada Dw to a double clear in 44.44 seconds to finish in fourth place.
Ciaran Nallon also made it through to the jump-off aboard X Flow Lightyear 2, but four faults meant they had to settle for seventh place.
Foley won Thursday’s 1.35m two-phase with the eight-year-old Irish Sport Horse Thebestof Quality (Quality Safari x Master Imp xx), bred by Geraldine Digby. The pair were the fastest of 21 clear rounds in 27.11 seconds. Nallon slotted into third place with X Flow Lightyear 2.
Nallon, who began riding for Richard and Deridre Bourns’ Bourns Sport Horses recently, landed two second-place finishes aboard Hennessy in a junior 1.25m and a 1.30m class.
Under 25s
In the 1.45m Under 25 Grand Prix, Christopher Megahey finished fourth with Daisy 920, earning €2,500. The combination were clear against the clock in 40.42 seconds, just ahead of Sophie Dalm and Germeta W in 40.88 seconds.
Dalm, who is based in Europe with Brazil’s Marlon Zanotelli and Sweden’s Angelica Augustsson Zanotelli, won Friday’s Under 25 1.35m two-phase class. Riding Fastday VDL, her time of 26.29 seconds against the clock was the fastest of 13 double clears.
The John Dooley-bred Irish Sport Horse Quarrycrest Reflection (Clover echo x Cavalier Royale) finished second under Norway’s Ada Alette Braaten Johnsen, while Megahey slotted into fifth with E-Maitresse TVH Z, ahead of Lucinda Roche in sixth with Izar LB.
Ian Fives was also victorious in the Under 25 section. He won Saturday’s 1.35m Table A aboard Lisca H when clear in a time of 55.04. Dalm was fifth with Fastday VDL (0/ 58.26).
