GREG Broderick finished the two-star show in Sevilla last week with two horses in the top five of Sunday’s Grand Prix, while Mikey Pender picked up another win at the venue.

Broderick had two horses in the 14-horse jump-off and guided Kerry McCahill’s 12-year-old gelding Charly Chaplin S to third place when breaking the beam in 41.37 seconds.

Broderick also partnered the Noel Cawley-bred Irish Sport Horse Hybernia (Flexible x Clover Hill) to fifth place when clear in 43.37 seconds. Broderick collected a cheque for €5,500.

Victory in the class went to Luxembourg’s Charlotte Bettendorf and Hope Street in a time of 38.65, ahead of Britain’s William Funnell and Billy McCain (0/0 39.68).

Broderick finished second and third in Sunday’s 1.35m Table A class aboard Charmeur and Lackamore Storm (ISH), respectively. Earlier in the week, the two horses had exactly the same placings in the 1.40m under the Tipperary rider.

PENDER WIN

Kildare’s Michael Pender won Friday’s 1.45m Table A at the venue. Riding Marion Hughes’ Irish Sport Horse mare HHS Fortune (Catoki x ARD VDL Douglas), he was the fastest of 13 clear rounds from the 60 starters when breaking the beam in 68.89 to win €6,250.

The victory marked the eight-year-old’s third win at this level in 2019.

His nearest rival, Charlotte Bettendorf, was over a second slower to fill the runner-up position aboard Iris van de Bisschop (0/ 70.64).
