German win for Denis Lynch

TIPPERARY’s Denis Lynch picked up a three-star win in Nörten-Hardenberg, Germany, last weekend when racing to victory in Saturday’s 1.45m jump-off class. Riding Onyx Consulting Ltd’s 10-year-old Chacco-Blue gelding Caruso, Lynch collected €6,175 when fastest in a time of 42.91 seconds. That combination also placed third in the 1.40m Accumulator with the maximum of 65 points in 50.31 seconds. Victory went to Switzerland’s Werner Muff (Cosby).

Danish victory for Richard Howley

SLIGO’s Richard Howley was among the three-star winners at the Nations Cup show in Uggerhalne, Denmark, when winning Sunday’s 1.45m Table A with Cruising Star (Cruisings Micky Finn x Lux Z). The 10-year-old mare, who is owned by Howley and Paul Beecher, picked up €8,250 when clear in a time of 64.76 seconds, beating British teen Harry Charles into second place.

David Simpson finished fifth in Thursday’s 1.40m Table A at the same venue. Riding Chessy 17, he was clear in 64.56 seconds. The class was won by South Africa’s Alexa Stais.

Rankin victory

JENNY Rankin enjoyed a good show in Uggerhalne, Denmark, where she made her senior Nations Cup debut and picked up a one-star win with Deirdre Bourns’ seven-year-old mare Call Me Cool Z (Clinton I x Grannus). The combination, who have very consisitent form so far this year, were the fastest in Thursday’s 1.30m Table A. Rankin finished third in the 1.35m with the seven-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding Sea Topblue (Chacco-Blue x Lux Z), bred by James and John Meade.

McAuley fifth

LOUTH’s Mark McAuley finished fifth in the four-star Grand Prix at Bourg en Bresse in France. Riding his wife Charlotte’s talented gelding Utchan de Belheme (Calvaro Z x Mr Blue), who jumped a clear round in the five-star Nations Cup at La Baule the week previous, McAuley was one of five clears in the first round but faulted twice against the clock to finish fifth and take home €4,900. Victory went to France’s Alexis Deroubaix and Timon D’Aure (0/0 38.28).
