Vilamoura placings

JONATHAN Smyth finished third in Saturday’s 1.40m Table A at the jumping tour in Vilamoura, Portugal, last weekend. The young rider guided the nine-year-old ISH gelding Mulvin Lights Out (Kroongraaf x Diamond Serpent VII) to one of 18 clear rounds in the competitive class, breaking the beam in 57.63 seconds to finish third. Michelle Kenny finished ninth with Bel-Mia SP, just ahead of Molly Hughes Bravo and Quialina D in 10th.

Mikey Pender was runner-up in Friday’s 1.45m Table A aboard the Judy Murphy-bred HHS Javas Gucci (Luidam x Cruising). The pair went double clear in 36.39 seconds to earn €5,140. Victory went to Italy’s Piergorgio Bucci with Naiade d’Elsendam Z (0/0 36.25). Pender placed third in Thursday’s 1.45m two-phase with another ISH, the Marion Hughes-bred HHS Fortune (Catoki x Ard VDL Douglas). Their clear round was just slower than British winner Laura Renwick.

Wins for Allen and Turkington in Italy

HARRY Allen finished fourth in the two-star 1.45m Grand Prix in Gorla Minore, Italy, last Sunday with Ballywalter Farm’s 10-year-old stallion Guinness. Just a week after finishing runner-up at the same venue, the pair were one of six double clears in 42.53 seconds, earning €3,000. Victory in the class went to Switzerland’s Bryan Balsiger with Twenty two des Biches (0/0 40.09).

Harry won Saturday’s seven-year-old 1.35m aboard the chesnut gelding It’s Me des Saules, owned by Ballywalter and Victoria Gulliksen. They were the fastest of seven clear against the clock in a time of 35.77 seconds.

Tyrone’s Emily Turkington won Thursday’s 1.35m at the venue aboard the Susanne Macken- owned and bred eight-year-old ISH mare Bella M (Luidam x Acorado I). The pair raced to victory when fastest of 18 clear rounds. They then finished third in Saturday’s 1.35m and runner-up on Sunday.

Galligan second

MEATH show jumper Nicky Galligan was runner-up in a three-star 1.50m in Thermal, California, aboard his own ISH mare Javas Miss Jordan last Friday. Bred by Judy Murphy, the 12-year-old Luidam mare posted a clear round in 62.37 seconds to earn €6,590. The combination were beaten by Frenchman Eric Navat and Cadillac Jack (0/ 60.99).
