IRISH riders put in a good show of form at Peelbergen last week with a host of good results over the course of the week.

Denis Lynch ended the week on a high note as he took the win in the two-star Seacon Logistics Grand Prix.

A large starting field of 56 combinations went to post and from those, 20 delivered clear rounds the first time out. This was then was reduced to 13 in the second round.

Riding the nine-year-old gelding Visa Z, Lynch’s careful riding saw him stop the clock in 41.65 seconds. His closest rival was British rider Matthew Sampson, fractions of a second behind aboard Geneva R in 41.68.

Third place belonged to Marcus Ehning and the stallion Comme Il Faut 5, who clocked 42 seconds. Harold Megahey and Kingston also was one of the double clears in 44.64 for ninth place.

Lynch opened Saturday’s classes with a win in the CSI1* Grand Prix 1.35m class. Riding the stallion Cornets Iberio, he was one of only four double clears, finishing in a time of 39.88 seconds.

Lynch’s form continued later in the day as he led the victory lap in the CSI2* 1.40m aboard Gillion ES having gone clear in 34.03. The Tipperary man was joined in the line-up by Mayo’s Michael G. Duffy who also put in a faultless performance aboard Money Penny, albeit in a slower time of 35.12.

Strong start

The Irish contingent got off to a strong start at the start of the week with Lynch taking sixth place with Visa Z in the 1.40m on Thursday when clear in a time of 71.72. Further down the line were Michael G. Duffy and Rising Son (73.27).

On Friday, Duffy was back in the ribbons in the CSI2* Table A with jump-off 1.45m, when he took sixth place with My Way B. & V when they kept all the poles in their cups in 38.13.

One place behind was Denis Lynch and Visa Z, when they crossed the line with nothing to add in 38.43. The winner of the class was Matthew Sampson and Paul Walker, who stopped the clock in 37.06 seconds.

Lynch added to his tally when he took third place in the CSI2* Table A 1.40m aboard Gillion ES, when he put in a clear round in 71.25.

Shane O’Meara also put in a faultless performance with the Manton Grange Stables-owned Ici, when clear in 72.99 for sixth place. O’Meara was clearly on form as he delivered another clear round with Hauform in 73.59 for eighth place.

Winner of the class was German rider Patrick Döller who clocked 67.55 aboard Chic Cheraa.

It was also a good show for Duffy who took fourth place with Money Penny in the 1.35m when he delivered a clear in 72.43. Duffy returned to the line-up when he took sixth place in the CSI2* 1.45 Table A riding Carl Hanly’s Lacido. They recorded a clear in 39.29 seconds.

Shane O’Meara also recorded a top finish in this class when he partnered Ici to a clear in 39.48.

On Saturday, Ciaran Dreeling secured a third-place finish with Jataki in the CSI2* 1.35m two phase, when they kept all the poles up in a time of 33.39.

He added to his record later in the day when he took second place in the CSIYH1* seven-year-old 1.30m with Olympic Quality, crossing the line clear in 75.38.
